Nubian jewelry is distinctly different from other jewelry in Egypt. In addition to silver jewelry, gold jewelry has always played an important role as well. Nowadays, silver jewelry is seen less and less. Some Nubian jewelry is similar to that worn on the Red Sea coast.
Nubian bracelets. These are constructed of a basic type of bracelet, that is combined to bracelets consisting of 2, 3, 4 and sometimes even 5 rows.
Very characteristic of Nubia are the bracelets consisting of one or more rings, as shown in the photograph to the left. These bracelets were not only adornment, but also fulfilled a more economical role. When the situation called for it, one or more of the individual rings could be sold at the going rate. It is not uncommon to find bracelets with clear signs of the removal of a part.
